Sustainability at dfv
We understand sustainability in its entire ecological, economic and social scope. Each dimension is important in terms of sustainable development and shapes our daily actions. For us, sustainability is a long-term corporate principle – integrated into our products, our corporate culture and our value chain.
Sustainable business practices – with integrity and responsibility
Only those who are economically independent and constantly evolving can ensure long-term quality and fulfil their journalistic responsibilities. As an independent media company, we are committed to freedom of the press as the foundation of a free and democratic society.
Our work is based on seven journalistic principles. They express our self-image as quality makers and guide our daily actions. Independence, relevance and credibility are non-negotiable for us – they create trust and strengthen the economic foundation of our media company.
A free and democratic society needs independent media. That is why we are committed to fair conditions that promote quality and diversity. Our media policy principles are a clear commitment: economic independence is a prerequisite for press freedom – and thus for a strong democracy.
We are constantly working to become more digital, innovative and efficient. Our Digital Media Development department works closely with other teams to review, optimise and redesign processes. This enables us to create modern, tailor-made products and solutions that meet the needs of our customers.

TO ENGAGEMENT
Acting ecologically – in production and operations
For us, sustainability also means acting in an environmentally responsible manner and manufacturing our products in the most environmentally friendly way possible. As a media company, paper remains indispensable even in the digital age – which makes it all the more important to use natural resources sparingly and efficiently.
The dfv Media Group works exclusively with printing companies that use mineral oil-free printing inks made from plant-based raw materials such as linseed oil. Many of our partner companies are also certified with the Blue Angel environmental label.
We also pay attention to environmental standards when it comes to paper: around 40% of our total print run is printed on paper with the Blue Angel environmental label – i.e. 100% recycled paper that does not contain any harmful chemicals or bleaching agents. For the remaining print products, we use FSC-certified paper sourced from responsible forestry. FSC certification guarantees sustainable forest management in accordance with globally recognised ecological and social standards and contributes to the long-term preservation of forests.
The dfv Media Group is also committed to environmentally friendly practices in other areas: for example, our employees have the option of purchasing a company bicycle.
We are steadily increasing the proportion of electric cars in our company car fleet. These are already being charged on the publishing premises with electricity sourced mainly from renewable energies. Business travel is mainly by rail.
We always assess new office equipment for sustainability before purchasing it. All notebooks in use are part of a life cycle management programme to ensure they are used efficiently throughout their entire life cycle.
The green spaces on our publishing premises are watered with rainwater collected in a catchment basin.
At the Frankfurt site, all employees have access to free fresh water from dispensers and suitable glass bottles – for less plastic and healthier drinking.
